What’s in Store for and Out of Netflix in the Week of December 3, 2018

For those of us who can’t get enough of Anthony LaPaglia, who may or may not have signed up for a free trial of Sundance Now just to watch it on a little-known and little-known TV series called Riviera , this week is good news. LaPaglia reappears on the small screen on Friday as the boss of the Montreal Mafia in Bad Blood, featuring the lines “The time for diplomacy is over” and “We care about our friends … as long as you remain a friend.” both spoke with deadly seriousness. If you like a mafia drama in which someone is beaten to death with a baseball bat, welcome home.

Your other hot ticket this week is Dumplin ‘ (Friday), in which Jennifer Aniston plays a former beauty queen whose daughter is competing “to prove her point of being fit and true.” When I hear Rachel Greene playing with a Texas accent, I fear that this film will be as broad a caricature of Southerners as Bad Blood is of Italo-Canadians. But Danielle MacDonald, the actress who plays her daughter, has received some good reviews, so I’m cautiously optimistic.
