How to Use OpenTable Points to Get Hotel Discounts
Around the corner from our apartment there is an amazing ramen-making place, where my boyfriend and I come, probably once a week. For a while, we just walked around the table when we got hungry, which actually works most of the time. Then I realized that they are on OpenTable.
With OpenTable, you can earn Reward Points when you dine at the restaurant where you made your reservation. We earn 100 points for offering reasonably priced ramen. For more expensive locations, you can earn more. While we probably “don’t need” to book a table, I now do it almost every time we decide to go there for dinner in order to purchase glasses.
Later, points can be redeemed for lunch. For example, 2000 points can be earned for a $ 20 Lunch Check. I think of this as a complementary card for better food. After 20 hikes in ramen we will get one for free. Now these points are good for hotel discounts as well.
The best part? In fact, glasses cost twice as much as in restaurants.
OpenTable recently announced a new partnership with Kayak that allows you to use your OpenTable points on the site to purchase hotel rooms.
Unlike restaurants, where you need to earn 2,000 points before redeeming points for a gift card, in hotels you can start cash out your points with as little as 1,000.
To get them, go to opentable.kayak.com and search for hotels as usual. Once you find a hotel you like, click on the number of points you want to use for booking on the hotel’s profile page.
That’s all. Points must be redeemed in 1000 increments.
One wrinkle: reservations made with points are non-refundable and non-cancellable, so make sure these travel plans are set in stone before booking.
