What to Wear to Run in the Cold
Cold weather shouldn’t get in the way of your running, but getting dressed is a mystery: how not to freeze your butt and overheat when you start sweating? In this video, we’ll show you exactly what to wear.
As practice shows, while running, you will feel about 20 degrees Fahrenheit warmer, so on a day with 50 degrees you can run in a T-shirt and shorts. Here are some more recommended outfits for a cold winter:
- 40 degrees: long-sleeved shirt, pants or shorts of your choice, and gloves.
- 30 degrees: long pants or leggings, a light jacket and a headband or hat.
- 20 degrees: Combine a jacket with a long-sleeved shirt and throw shorts over leggings (looks silly, but I promise this is a top five hacker).
- 10 degrees: all the warmest layers plus a scarf or a buff on the face.
Everyone has different preferences, and with practice, you’ll figure out whether you’re the type of person who wears three shirts before freezing or the type of person who runs in the snow in shorts. But this should be the starting point when you go on your first (or next) run in cold weather.
