Get Drunk on the Kentucky Dollar
Happy weekend everyone, and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. This week we are making a major dollar with lots of very strong bourbon.
You may not have heard of dollars before, but you probably had them. The dollar is just a drink with booze, citrus and ginger beers, and it’s delicious. The Moscow mule is the most famous example, but why use vodka when you can use 100 fortress bourbon? (You can also use weaker bourbon, but again, why?) Some Kentucky bucks contain strawberries and bitters, but I’ve always found the confusion messy, and ginger and lemon are more than enough in terms of flavor. To make one of your own, you will need:
- 1 1/2 ounces 100% bourbon
- 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
- Ginger beer top
Pour bourbon and lemon juice into a highball, stir a little, and fill a glass with ice. Top with ginger beer and garnish with a lemon wedge. Drink through a straw and repeat as needed.
