How to Watch Today’s Samsung Unpacked Event and What to Expect
Later today, Samsung will unveil its latest product line during the Samsung Unpacked livestream, including the rumored Galaxy S10 smartphone. This new flagship smartphone is likely to receive the lion’s share of the attention today, but there are many more devices that could appear, not to mention the possibility of last-minute surprises.
Here’s how to watch a live stream of the event, along with a breakdown of what announcements we expect to see.
How to watch
The Samsung Unpacked event will take place on Wednesday, February 20 at 2:00 pm ET / 11:00 am PT at the Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. The presentation will be streamed live on the Samsung website or YouTube channel .
What to expect
If rumors and leaks over the past few weeks are any indication, today’s presentation is likely to be filled with announcements of several new smartphones, as well as first glimpses of several new devices that Samsung will launch in the near future. Here’s an overview of what we expect to see.
Galaxy S10 Announcement
Considering numerous leaks, rumors and Samsung’s own teasers and promotional materials, today’s debut of the new Galaxy S10 is almost confirmed for now.
The Galaxy S10 is expected to have a large screen with minimal bezels, but unlike the notched cameras on the Pixel 3 or iPhone X, the S10 will use a punch-style front camera where the screen “wraps” around the camera lens. The Lakers also mentions a triple-lens rear camera that includes standard, wide-angle, and telephoto lenses. In terms of hardware specs, the S10 is said to have a larger battery than the S9 (although we’ll have to wait until today to find out how much), 1TB storage, 12GB RAM and runs a Snapdragon 855 chipset. Yes, and it is expected to be. it will retain a dedicated headphone jack.
Also, two variants of the Galaxy S10 will likely be shown – the S10 + and S10E. The S10 + is said to be bigger and provide more storage space, while the S10E will cut some features and dimensions to make it a smaller and more affordable phone. You can read more about the Galaxy S10 rumors here .
Take a look at Samsung’s flexible phone
Samsung has confirmed that it will showcase its upcoming foldable phone during unboxing. Rumored to be called “Galaxy Fold” at the same time, this phone will use Samsung’s flexible OLED screen , which allows the phone to be folded, twisted and reshaped. Also, not much is known about this mysterious shape-shifting device, so we hope there will be more information in today’s presentation.
Smartphone 5G
The reports also indicate that Samsung is also announcing a 5G smartphone “Galaxy X” today. 5G will bring huge innovations to smartphones and the tech industry in general, but it is also in its early stages of deployment and is largely an untested technology . It’s safe to assume that the first wave of 5G phones will be a tough sell given the current state of carrier support for 5G, but today’s Unpacked event would be the perfect place for Samsung to take its step.
Speaking of new tech, it’s also worth noting that all smartphones announced today will ship with the RCS-based Samsung Messages text app. If you are not familiar with RCS or its advantages over SMS, be sure to check out our explanation of RCS .
New wearable devices
Samsung is likely to expand its line of Android wearables today as well. We won’t be surprised to see the fully wireless Galaxy headphones, as well as the Galaxy Fit and Fit E fitness trackers and the Galaxy Active smartwatch.
