Closing on President’s Day
President’s Day! This day officially marks the birthday of the country’s first president, George Washington. In fact, the holiday is technically called Washington’s Birthday. This is a federal holiday, which means not only will many people have a day off on Monday (3-day FTW weekend!), But many businesses will also be closed.
Obviously, we cannot name all the local shops that will be open or closed in your area, but we can give you a rundown of some of the main things that will be closed (or open) during the day. Spoiler: The “closed” composition is mainly state organizations.
the shops
President’s Day is one of those holidays when almost all shops will be open, as well as most restaurants and grocery stores. Generally speaking, if the place is usually open on Mondays, then it will probably be open today. In many department stores, etc. there are sales for President’s Day.
Because President’s Day is a federal holiday, the US Postal Service will not deliver mail on Monday.
Banks and the stock market
Most banks will be closed for the day, including the Federal Reserve. The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will also be closed.
Garbage
If Monday is usually your trash day, chances are good that Monday you are out of luck. Garbage collection will be canceled in most cases, but this will depend on where you are.
Schools
When it comes to schools, your mileage will also depend on where you are. Most public schools will be closed during the day, but schools also often use President’s Day as a “make-up day” to cancel weather conditions earlier in the year, and some school districts do not offer a day off at all.
Courts
State and federal courts will be closed for the public holiday.
