How to Use Netflix’s Smart Download Feature for IOS
Last summer, Netflix launched a new Smart Downloads feature for Android, and this week it introduced the feature to iOS as well.
This feature, which can be turned on or off, configures Netflix to automatically download new episodes for you and delete old ones. The idea is that you always have something to see, so you don’t have to download an entire season at once and waste available storage on your device.
For example, if you’re trying to clean up Marie Kondo’s mess and downloaded the first three episodes of the show after you finish episode 1, the app will automatically uninstall it and download episode 4 the next time you connect to Wi-Fi.
To find it on your device, go to the Downloads tab in the Netflix app. You will see Smart Downloads at the top of the screen. Click on it to turn this feature on or off. And if you don’t see it, make sure you have the latest version of the Netflix app downloaded to your device.
It’s not really a solution for long plane rides and other situations where you can download a ton of stuff to watch right away, but if you’re in the habit of watching shows on your morning commute, it can help make sure you always have something – something new, without forcing you to download the whole season.
