How to Submit a Bug Report to Apple, Google, Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft, and More.
Security leaks, hardware exploits, glitches, faulty features – every piece of hardware or software is prone to bugs and vulnerabilities, and you’ve probably had the misfortune of dealing with them at some point in your tech life. While most people smile, tolerate, and wait for the problem to go away on its own, you can also be more proactive about bugs and other security breaches by communicating your findings.
Problem? You may not know how and where to file a bug report when you run into a problem. To make this process easier, we’ve looked at the most commonly used application, service, and hardware vendors and combined their bug reporting tools into one big list.
A few tips for reporting errors
While our list explains how to submit error reports for commonly used applications and services, it is not exhaustive. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, here are some quick tips and tricks for reporting errors:
- Some applications and programs allow you to send crash / error reports directly. If you have frequent crashes and this option is available, use it. Often these automatic reports will include information that would otherwise have to be added manually, greatly simplifying the process.
- If possible, write down (or take a screenshot of) any pop-ups or error codes. Describe in detail what and how the error, error or failure occurred, and be sure to include your hardware / software specifications where applicable. These details will be useful for inclusion in your bug report (and may be required in some cases).
- If you are submitting a bug to a forum or message board, be sure to check any posting guidelines that would normally require you to do a preliminary search to see if your specific bug has already been reported. While re-reporting can help you fix a bug faster, some bug reporting forums have strict requirements on how to report the same bug or bug.
- If you’re looking for a company bug bounty program or how to report a security vulnerability, these links can usually be found on Bugcrowd or Hackerone . Remember, these programs are geared more towards high-level problems and serious bugs rather than problems with your average performance, and therefore have strict rules for submitting.
