What to Do Before Google+ Closes on April 2
Google+ will cease to exist on April 2, which means that all your content on Google+, including pages, photos, and videos, will disappear with it.
Google announced it was shutting down last year in part because people weren’t actually using the platform. In December, the company pushed the closing date from August to April and is asking users to download their Google+ data before it is deleted.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Go to Google’s Upload Your Data page. If you’re signed in and have a Google+ account, all Google+ options will be pre-selected. You may need to sign in or change your account.
- If you want to keep only certain data, you can click “No” and select only those products that interest you. You can also turn foods on and off.
- Click Next.
- Select the file type and delivery method (email link, Drive, Dropbox, etc.).
- Click Create Archive.
Exporting data does not delete your Google+ profile, so if you want to do this before the official completion of the work, you can go to the page move to a earlier version and follow the instructions.
According to Google, the disconnection will take time, which means your content cannot be removed on April 2nd. However, if you have something in your account that you care about, save it now. Photos and videos backed up to Google Photos will not be deleted when you shut down Google+.
