What’s in Store for and Out of Netflix in the Week of March 18, 2019
I hate biography! I would rather watch a biographical documentary than watch actors pose as real living people. Sure, you are likely to win an Oscar for your role (cf. Rami Malek), but I’m not entirely sure why, because acting in the biopic involves so many imitations that it seems like a waste of time. Get me the real McCoy! (Or real Mercury!). For these reasons, I was going to pre-hate The Dirt , the Netflix biopic Motley Crüe (Thursday), but then I watched the trailer. Forget the CGI re-creation of Queen playing Live Aid – this movie features sex, drugs, fires, fights and car accidents that were not captured on camera. It looks disgusting, outrageous and not bad – plus it’s based on the book by Neil Strauss from The Game , so you know it’s going to be an awful train wreck! I may regret it, but I’m making an exception to my biography rule for this crappy movie.
The trailer for Amy Schumer’s new special ” Growing” (Tuesday) looks bad, but I’ll watch it anyway. She is married and pregnant, so I am in awe of how this all affected her misanthropy. I pray this special doesn’t end on a “touching” note. We’ve got a bunch of specials from Ray Romano worth watching if we’re going to be good with humanity.
