How to Fix Your Broken Roku
Is your Roku causing you problems? You may have sat down to watch HBO Max, or started looking forward to the release of Hawkeye on Disney + , but something is wrong with your Roku. As the holidays approach, we will all have more time to watch TV, but you won’t be able to enjoy it if your Roku apps aren’t working. Fortunately, there is a fix.
What is causing your Roku to stop working?
The problem seems to be related to Roku OS 10.5 . This update actually launched in October, however not all Roku devices were eligible for the update right away. For example, Roku TV users have only recently started receiving the update, and as such, many of the recent complaints come from users of these devices.
According to Roku, this 10.5 bug only affects “old” models; Affected devices include Roku TV models 7XXX and Roku Ultra models 4660, 4661, 4662 and 4670.
While Roku TV users may have encountered this error recently, some users have been complaining that the issue has been affecting them for several weeks. If you haven’t had access to your Roku apps for days or weeks, this is a frustrating situation. Not only are you paying Roku for its technology, you are also paying for streaming services that you no longer have access to. Prime Video, Paramount +, Disney +, HBO Max, ESPN and others are an expensive bundle to pay for and not worth being forced to watch on a mobile device alone.
How to fix Roku OS Error 10.5
While Roku previously addressed this issue, it now has a fix for the affected devices . The company has started releasing a patch that should fix the problem. However, Roku recommends manually checking and installing the update, as opposed to the automatic updates you might be used to.
To check for new updates on your Roku, press the Home button on your remote, then scroll and select Settings . Then select System , System Update , then Check Now . Your Roku will then search for all available updates. If a patch is available, you will see it here and can download and install accordingly.
Roku emphasizes that this method should only be used on devices affected by this streaming error. If your device is working as expected, you can enable automatic download and installation of updates.
If your device is not listed here and you are not seeing an update yet, please refer to this Roku support page for the latest information from the company.
