Go Straight to the Recipe With This Chrome Extension
A very common, almost tired complaint that you hear on recipe blogs is that it takes too long to get the real recipe. This usually involves flipping through a story involving at least one elderly matriarch, a note on male appetite, and six photographs of the same bowl of soup. (Sometimes there is also a photo of a child “helping”.)
But now there is RecipeFilter , a Chrome extension that pulls a recipe from a swamp of personal secrets and endless photos and displays it in a neat little frame on top of your blog text. Finally , I can learn how to make a creamy instant Italian chicken breast without reading about someone’s spouse.
The filter works well, but not perfect. Funnily enough, it doesn’t work on this very website, so you’ll still have to read – or at least flip through – every word I say. But it does pretty well on lifestyle and recipe blogs, which are honestly the worst offenders, and sites like The Kitchn and Epicurious (but not Food52 or Bon Appetit).
Also, if there is a blogger whose stories and photos you enjoy reading and seeing, you can add them to the extension’s blacklist so you can continue to enjoy that writer’s journey.
