How Can You Sign up to Play With (or Against) World Class OpenAI Dota 2 AI This Weekend
This weekend (and only this weekend), Dota 2 players will be able to see firsthand the victory over the world champion, who demonstrated the competitive artificial intelligence of OpenAI Dota 2, OpenAI Five. The AI has been trained using a technique called “deep learning reinforcement” that has allowed the AI to play Dota 2 for over 45,000 years in just 10 months. This workout seems to have paid off as the AI ”team” just recently beat the pro Dota 2 esports team, OG, in a top-of-three tournament. You can read the entire saga here.
With such a landmark victory under its belt, OpenAI plans to test the OpenAI Five outside of the tournament structure by matching the AI to the Dota 2 player base as a whole in a three-day public event known as the “OpenAI Five Arena.”
Through Arena, Dota 2 players will be able to play both individually and in teams with other human players and / or bots of the OpenAI Five in competitive and cooperative configurations. The goal of the experiment is to evaluate how well the OpenAI Five performs against a wider player base using completely different strategies (and itself), and then will use the collected data to further improve the performance of the AI.
If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand against sophisticated AI, then be sure to sign up for the limited Arena event. OpenAI Five Arena starts on Thursday, April 18 at 9:00 pm ET and runs three days until Sunday, April 21, at 9:00 pm ET.
