How to Open Multiple Programs Without Closing the Windows Start Menu
I usually open several programs in the morning – Slack, Steam, my web browser, Discord, Spotify, and so on. Although I keep my most used applications pinned to the Windows taskbar, I still have a few applications that I open from the Start menu (to reduce clutter).
Problem? When you click an application on the Windows Start menu, it launches and the Start menu disappears. This is ideal when you only have one application open, but if you have multiple applications that you want to open at the same time, you will have to click to open the Start menu, click the application, click to open the Start menu, click the second application, etc. .d.
I realize this is a bit of a hashtag issue related to the first world as the guys on Twitter say, but why bother with that? Instead, if you want to open multiple programs from the Start menu (without closing it every time you do), there is a little trick you can use. And this is absurdly easy.
With the Start menu open, hold down the Start Menu button on your keyboard before clicking an application. When you do this, the Start menu will remain open and whatever you click on will load in the background.
I wouldn’t recommend doing this for running a full screen game as it will ruin everything, but it’s a great little technique to help you get a bunch of applications up and running quickly.
