Give Your Child “Send Text to My Parent” Cards Before Leaving School
There is almost no school left, which means that your children are about to lose their usual daily social life for a long and hot time. As a working mom, I admittedly haven’t contacted the parents of every child that my six-year-old daughter hangs out with on the playground. But I’m sure these little buddies will miss each other this summer. So when my child starts the last week of the school year, I give her a small stack of Text Message Parents cards to hand out to friends she might want to date with a break.
For kids who are too young for cell phones and don’t have a roommate of their own , cards are a cute way to say, “Let your people call my people.” They are great for busy mums and dads who may not face a lot of other parents at school, or introverted parents with extroverted children . This is an easy invitation to get in touch, a milder alternative to stalking and messaging with people on Facebook (although I won’t say I never did). If your children are going to summer school or camp, they can also hand out cards there.
For “My Parent’s Text” card, you can use a free online business card maker like this one from Canva (which I used to design the card above) or this one from Avery. Include your child’s name as well as your name and number. You can add a greeting such as “Let’s play sometime!” or “Come on together this summer!” Print cards onto postcards or business cards for printing .
Of course, if you don’t have time for this (this is the end of the school year, after all), you can simply write your name and number on scraps of paper and announce the day. Either way, you lend a helping hand and teach your children to do the same.
