Update Your Google Pay Privacy Settings Now

Google Pay is a convenient way to combine multiple payment methods into one account, making online purchases much easier. However, there are several default Google Pay options that you can opt out of if you’re worried about how much of your personal and credit information Google might share with others.

There are three parameters to consider:

Of these settings, you should pay attention to the first two. Both allow Google to share your credit score and personal information appropriately with Google-owned companies. If you turn them off, Google will not be able to share this information, but it will not affect your ability to use Google Pay as a payment method.

The third option is more gentle; it allows Google to automatically inform businesses and online merchants if you have a Google Pay account, making Google Pay a possible payment option on some websites. Disabling this setting may remove Google Pay as a possible payment option, but opting out may make sense if you disagree with Google sharing such information (in which case, it might also be wise to just leave Google Pay together ) …

All three options are enabled by default and must be manually disabled, but they are not always easily accessible and are located deep in the settings of the Google Pay web page. They can usually be found in the following ways:

  1. Use this link to open the Google Pay settings web page . The link should work in any browser as long as you can log into your Google account.
  2. Scroll down to the very bottom; uncheck the boxes next to the settings you want to refuse.
  3. Tap / click “Save” to apply the changes.

Alternatively, you can navigate to them in Chrome by following these steps:

  1. Tap / click the three folded dots icon, then go to Settings> Payment Methods.
  2. Tap / click on the “Add or manage Google Pay payment methods, go to your Google account” link.
  3. This will load a new page. In the left corner of the new page, tap / click the three composite lines icon, then tap Settings to open the Google Pay settings page.
  4. Scroll down until you see the three options listed above and uncheck the boxes that you don’t want to activate.
  5. Tap / click “Save” for the changes to take effect.
