The Best Deals in the Epic Games Store Monthly Mega Sale
Epic really wants you to start buying games from its online store. The company behind Fortnite (and the widely used game development engine Unreal) has announced that it will be running a sale on its Epic Games Store from May 16 to June 13, 2019 . This means a lot of discounts on PCs. games big and small, old and new (and not even released).
The Mega Sale precedes the annual Summer Sale from the largest digital gaming platform Steam , widely considered to be a serious shopping event for gamers. While it is in some ways a game of parity with a competitor, selling is just the latest in a series of Epic efforts to get people to buy. Primarily for consumers, Epic has been giving away a new free game every two weeks since January. (You can get the indie horror Stories Untold right now). Epic is giving away a new game every week this month as part of Epic’s Sale.
There are big and small discounts in the store, but the gist of the sale is $ 10 off every game over $ 15. This discount is added to the total sales of individual games. For example, Metro Exodus , a game I really liked , is selling for $ 45 with a five dollar discount, which is not a big deal; but with Epic’s mega sale included, the actual selling price is $ 35. If you’re kicking yourself because you just bought a game that suddenly went on sale, don’t worry: Epic has said it will apply Mega Sale rebates through refunds to all full-price games purchased from its store during the period. May 2nd until May 16th Sale begins. According to Epic, these refunds will be issued within the next 7-12 days.
Interestingly, the discount also applies to upcoming games available for pre-order, such as Borderlands 3 and John Wick Hex , a strategy game based on the movie franchise. While I usually disapprove of pre-ordering games – why pay now and wait until you can pay later and buy the game knowing what the reviewers are saying? – But, at least in this case, there is a real financial incentive for early investment. Again, Epic has said it will refund $ 10 to anyone who has already pre-ordered any of the games eligible for the discount through the Mega Sale. Based on the language, this appears to apply to all pre-orders for the discounted games, not just those made in the past two weeks.
Here’s a short list of some noteworthy deals for some good games and famous unreleased games.
