Falling Asleep Anywhere Is a Bad Sign.
Being able to fall asleep anywhere, anytime is a useful skill, especially if you travel a lot or work on non-standard schedules. But that’s not necessarily good – it’s also a sign of chronic sleep deprivation .
If you’re exhausted all day, you don’t need me to tell you that there is something wrong with your sleep. But people who don’t get enough sleep can feel awake most of the time, and then turn off as soon as they get a little peace and quiet.
Sleep questionnaires often ask you to imagine that you are in certain situations and how likely you are to fall asleep. ( Here’s a typical one .) How often do you fall asleep in front of the TV? On a 1-hour car ride? Are you lying down during the day to rest? If these are all sleep traps for you, you may not get enough sleep at night.
This can be for reasons you can control, such as reasons why you cannot go to bed, or reasons that you cannot do, such as health problems that prevent you from sleeping. We are not saying that sleep is bad, but constantly falling asleep as soon as you have the opportunity to relax is not a superpower.
