Block Comments Online With This Chrome Extension

Scroll through the comments section on just about any site on the Internet and you’re bound to come across at least a few toxic comments. Maybe more than a few, depending on the site you are viewing and the subject of the post people are commenting on.

Sometimes the comments section can be great. Commenting allows you to connect with other people who have read the same article about your thoughts, engage in friendly debates, and possibly learn new things. In other cases, the comment section can be difficult to read and can do more harm than good. For those times, there is an extension for Chrome Shut Up .

Shut Up has been around for a while, but given our current life situation as a country, it is worth mentioning again. Basically, the Chrome extension (as well as Firefox and Safari) serves one purpose: to help you avoid comments. There is also an iOS app.

After installation, the extension blocks the comments section on sites, so you don’t see them by default. If you’ve read something that you’d like to see a comment on, you can re-enable it and view them as usual.

If there are sites you like to comment on, you can also leave comments on some of the default sites.

The good side of this, in my opinion, is that you prefer to see what people are saying rather than accidentally bumping into a terrifying troll comment that knocks you off your feet for the rest of the day (or prompts you to start a discussion / fight comment with said troll) …
