You Can Donate Profits From Airbnb to Help Displaced People Find Housing
Airbnb hosts looking for a refund can now donate some ( or all) of their profits to help people affected by natural disasters, conflicts, or critical illnesses.
The company announced a new initiative called Donations , in which hosts can automatically deduct a percentage (from 1% to 100%) from each payment to help those in need find temporary housing. Airbnb currently works with the following organizations:
- International Rescue Committee , which helps refugees rebuild their lives with support, housing and education after moving to the United States.
- All Hands and Hearts , a disaster relief organization that helps disaster-affected communities.
- The Make-A-Wish Foundation , which fulfills wishes for children with serious illnesses (including travel and overnight stays).
Donations is an offshoot of the Airbnb Open Homes program, where hosts can donate their homes to evacuees, relief workers, and refugees. But for those who can’t afford to host for free and still want to help, a donation program might be better.
All donations are tax deductible and will go directly to nonprofits (Airbnb will cover all processing fees), and the money will help provide temporary housing or travel expenses for medical needs.
