Track Your Kid’s Milestones on Roulette
Oh, a childish ritual of recording the height of a doorway. You would stand as straight as possible, like Mom or Dad would draw a line on the top of your head and write the date of the day. Then you step back and view the results. Hey look! You’ve grown three quarters of an inch! Your parents would smile and give you five and then cry secretly as you ran away to play.
This is a wonderful tradition that I would like to preserve now that I have children. The problem is, you can’t draw on the walls if you rent an apartment – and even if you own it, you’ll have to leave the diagram behind if you move. But here, I found a solution on Instagram, and it’s quite ingenious: you track your child’s growth with a tape measure.
Simply cover the tape with white spray paint or acrylic paint and it becomes a blank canvas on which you can document your child’s many milestones. Using a thin permanent marker, you can add growth markers for your birthday and whatever comes to your mind – funny quotes from that year, special accomplishments, or favorite hobbies. Call it a “memory stick” if you like. If you have multiple children, you can make a stick for each of them. I got one for my seven month old baby Max.
Years later, when your children graduate from high school, you can give them their tape measure – a unique record of their youth. It’s small, portable and can easily be taken with you wherever you go.
