Check Out Anthony Bourdain’s Favorite New Jersey Restaurants
This week – a year after his death – Chef Anthony Bourdain was honored by New Jersey authorities on a food trail dedicated to restaurants in his home state.
Following a 2015 New Jersey episode of CNN’s Unknown Parts, the route consists of 10 restaurants he visited during the show, including a hot dog spot from his childhood and a cheese-steak that he described as worthy of national landmark status.
“It’s a bittersweet day for me to be here because obviously Tony should be here,” said Chris Bourdain, his brother, at the official trail opening event at Hiram’s, one stop along the food trail.
The trail itself runs from Bergen County to Ocean, Monmouth, Atlantic and Camden counties, according to NJ.com, so it is best to get there by car if you plan to do several of them in one day.
Here’s a complete list of stops on the food trail if you’re hoping to follow it:
- Frank’s Deli , 1406 Main Street, Asbury Park
- Tony’s Baltimore Grill , 2800 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City
- Dock’s Oyster House , 2405 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City
- Knife & Fork Inn , 3600 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City
- James’ Salt Water Taffy , 1519 Boardwalk, 1325 Boardwalk, and 1901 Boardwalk, Atlantic City

This route does not (and cannot) fully convey Bourdain’s love of diverse cuisines; he was also a well-known fan of the Korean commercial So Kong Dong and the Japanese Mitsuwa Marketplace .
