What to Do With Gift Cards Now That Apple Has Killed ITunes
As announced at WWDC this year, 18 years later, Apple has finally decided to kill iTunes, its clumsy cult music app. Apple intends to split the service into smaller parts, that is, iTunes as we know it will cease to exist.
But what does that mean for all the unused gift cards you’ve received every Christmas for years? Well, the iTunes store isn’t going anywhere (yet), so you can still redeem any iTunes card and top up your store account to buy movies, TV shows, books, or games.
But you can also use the card to pay some of the monthly subscription services, such as accounts in Hulu , Tidal and Netflix. ( Netflix , however, recently changed its policy so that this option is only available to existing users, not new subscribers.) If you pay for an iCloud storage account, you can also use an iTunes Gift Card to fund an existing payment. … Simply redeem the card in the iTunes store account associated with your Apple ID; it should be subtracted automatically.
Forgot how to redeem your iTunes card? Go to the iTunes Store app on your phone, scroll down to the bottom and click Redeem. If you’re not already signed in, this should prompt you to sign in with your existing Apple ID. From here you can exchange your card and buy whatever your heart desires.
