Calculate the Reading Time of Any Book

If you’re trying to read more books , it’s helpful to know how much time it will take you to read – not how many days, but how much actual reading time. The Reading Length website indicates how long it will take to read a particular book. Enter a title and if available on Amazon Reading Length will find it. (Don’t press enter too quickly, or you might get the wrong result; instead, wait for the drop-down menu to appear and click on it.)

First, Reading Length estimates the number of words in a book based on the length of the audiobook, or (if no audiobook is available) the number of pages. He then divides that by a typical reading speed of 250 words per minute to get an approximate reading time.

If you read faster or slower than 250 words per minute, you can enter your personal reading speed and recount. To determine your speed, you can take the reading tests on the website, which come in three levels (elementary, high school, and university reading). You will likely find yourself reading each at a different speed. (I got over 350 wpm at the Oscar Wilde level in high school, but less than 250 at the Dickens level at the college level.)

The sad thing about this free resource is that if a lot of people use it at once, it can overload and stop working, so you’ll have to check it again in a few hours.
