Random Tip That Could Save Your Life, According to Reddit
You never know what scary and life-threatening event can happen right around the corner. Sure, even thinking about it is troubling – and you may not know what to do in every situation – but a single post on Reddit can prepare you a little for averting tragedy. To the question ” What knowledge can one day save your life ?” The post is full of tips and tricks on how to think quickly and not die.
One of the most common advice given in a thread of over 13,000 comments seems to be this: Don’t let yourself be distracted elsewhere. In other words, if someone steals you or tries to force you into their car, you are doing what you must to prevent this from happening. (This advice is accompanied by many suggestions on how to achieve this, which I will not approve of, but will keep in my heart.)
Another common category of advice is how not to be killed / eaten by wild animals, including bears, tigers, wolves, rhinos, cougars, and moose. There is also one warning to never eat a polar bear’s liver, even if you are starving and have access only to the carcass of this animal. “It has so much vitamin A in it that it will cause overdose and then death,” says u / dottmatrix. ( It seems to be true .)
Some of my favorite tips are more casual. Things you might never have thought about – and hopefully never need to be implemented – but seem to end up in the basket to be aware of .
The joy of the fury of the road
It’s a hard habit, but I smile and show my thumb to anyone who drives badly or aggressively. Makes me laugh and confuse them instead of aggravating them like tossing a bird or honking a horn. (u / SphincterTincture)
Eyes up
If a person asks for something on the street – light, time, whatever – always keep it in the line of the eyes. So if they ask for the time, don’t just look down at the clock. Raise your hand slightly to show the watch. (u / ByEthanFox)
Shoes on
Wear your shoes when landing or taking off. Statistically, that’s when trouble happens and you don’t want to be barefoot during the evacuation. (u / fursty_ferret)
Where are you?
If you call 911, always tell WHERE the problem is first and then the problem. If you are disconnected before you can tell what the problem is, at least the dispatcher has a place to send an officer to check it and advise if additional police or firefighters are needed. (u / Dr_Frasier_Bane)
No polite suffocation
EMT is here! If you have ever choked on food in a public place, DO NOT go to the toilet or make a scene. Almost all of the choking deaths I have seen occur unconscious in a toilet stall because they were too polite to seek help. (u / spuneli)
You don’t have to be “right”
If you are first in line at an intersection, look both ways before walking when the green light comes on. You never know when someone is going to drive through a red light. (u / pumah) Because, as u / saugoof’s father used to say, “The cemeteries are full of people with preferential right of way.”
When all else fails, protect your head
My mom does injuries and surgeries in a really dangerous place, and she always told me: “I can fix everything except your head.” It saved me two major car accidents. Always cover your head in any situation; car accident, beating, animal attack, whatever. (u / babytaysworld)
Calm down
I’ll give the last word to u / blackdogwhitecat, who once read some good advice on why, in the first place, you should try to stay calm in a frightening situation: “If you have a problem and you lose your head over it, now you have two problems “.
