How Was the Swimming Championship in August?
Did you swim a lot in August? My own summer has been quite chaotic and I have to admit that I mostly stuck to the gym routine, but I hope some of you took the opportunity to swim a few laps and work out in the pool.
I did one particular type of pool workout that Chilledmilk joked about when we talked about brick workouts – but throwing heavy objects into the pool is actually a lot of fun:
My version is diving for small pool toys for a family vacation. I took turns with the children: we had several toy fish that sank directly to the bottom, several sharks in the form of torpedoes that moved horizontally as they descended, and several small jellyfish that slowly swam down. My youngest collected the toys we found and threw them back; The kids and I ran to see who was the first to pick them up from the bottom of the pool.
There is no doubt that playing in the water is a fun way to move your body, even if it sounds more like fun than exercise. Even if you regularly swim in circles, the time spent playing can still help you feel the water – a kind of subtle body awareness that you won’t get if you don’t give yourself the opportunity to play.
So tell us what kind of workouts, intentional or not, did you do in the water in August? What did you find out?
