Pixel Owners: Apply for Settlement to Get up to $ 500
A few months ago, Google agreed to pay $ 7.25 million to settle a class action lawsuit due to faulty microphones on the original Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. For you, that means a payout of up to $ 500, and from today on you can file claims for payout money (even if you’ve never had a microphone problem).
The final settlement approval hearing is scheduled for December 6, 2019, but clients will need to file claims by October 7, 2019 in order to be eligible. Here are the different payment options and qualifications for each:
- Up to $ 20: Anyone who has purchased a Google Pixel or Pixel XL, whether or not they have experienced microphone issues on their phone, can get up to $ 20, you just need to provide proof of purchase made before January 4th, 2017.
- Up to $ 350: Pixel and Pixel XL owners who have microphone issues are eligible for up to $ 350. You need to provide documentation that you purchased the phone before January 4, 2017, as well as confirmation that your microphone was defective.
- Up to $ 500. Those with multiple device issues are eligible for up to $ 500. Again, proof of purchase and documentation of microphone problems are required.
- You can also opt out of the settlement, in which case you will not receive payment, but you reserve the right to participate in any potential future class action claims regarding faulty Pixel microphones.
To file a claim, go to the class action settlement page , click the orange “File a claim” button in the upper right corner and follow the instructions. Those who wish to opt out should instead press the blue opt out button. If for any reason you object to the settlement, you may ask to be present and make a statement at the final hearing. If you do nothing, you waive both payment and your rights to further class action claims for microphone issues.
Regardless of which option you choose, remember that you must apply by October 7, 2019 to receive payment. Also, please note that only a portion of the $ 7.25 million settlement goes towards payments to customers, and if more is filed than expected, the number of claims , the general restrictions on remuneration will decrease for all applicants.
