Throw Away That Recalled Spinach
If you recently bought bagged spinach, it could be contaminated with salmonella.
Dole Fresh Vegetables announced a voluntary recall of its young spinach, which is sold in 6-ounce bags and 10-ounce shellfish containers, due to concerns that it might be contaminated with Salmonella.
The spinach in question has a shelf life of August 5, so chances are good that if you bought it, you’ve already eaten it, or it went bad anyway. However, it’s worth checking to see if you have a bag in your fridge.
The recall is a precautionary measure after a bag of spinach tested positive for Salmonella in Michigan. Outside Michigan, the recalled product was also shipped to Virginia, Wisconsin, Tennessee, New Jersey, New York, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio.
Salmonella symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, and nausea. Symptoms usually appear within 8 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. If you have one of the infected packages, you can return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
