You Can Now Change the Alexa Speech Rate

Now you can ask Alexa to slow down if she answers you too quickly.

Wednesday Amazon has launched a new feature for Smart Assistant that allows you to ask her to slow down or speed up her work while she is answering you. In total, you can choose from seven different speeds; two are slower than the default Alexa speed and four are faster.

To change the speed at which Alexa speaks, simply say “Alexa, speak slower” or “Alexa, speak faster.” If you don’t like what you have chosen, you also have the option to say “Alexa, speak at your default speed”.

The speed you choose will remain the default until you change it.

In a blog post announcing the feature , Amazon says it has been heard from a number of customers that hearing impaired and older customers would appreciate if Alexa could slow down so they can better understand her responses. On the other hand, some blind and visually impaired clients were used to processing information faster and wanted Alexa to speak a little faster.

When you’re getting a lot of information from Alexa, the ability to change her speed can certainly come in handy. A slower speed can give you time to take notes, while a higher speed can allow you to browse a large amount of content – like your daily schedule – a little faster.

The ability to change the Alexa speech rate is now available to all Alexa users and devices.
