How to Make Google Assistant Read Notifications From Third-Party Apps
Google Assistant has quietly received a major update to its messaging functionality, giving the AI assistant the ability to read messages from third-party apps.
The lack of an official announcement of the new feature is odd, especially given that Android users have long wanted the feature. Previously, Google Assistant could only read aloud messages from Android Messages and Google Hangouts – and that’s not very good either. There’s no limit now: Google Assistant can read your messages from third-party apps like Slack, WhatsApp, Discord, Telegram, and even Google’s own finicky apps like Google Voice.
Start by calling Google Assistant with the words “Hey Google,” “Okay Google,” or by pressing the Google Assistant button / icon on your device, if available. Then tell him to “read my messages.”
The assistant will then dictate all the unread messages you have in order, and will even switch between different apps if you have a lag in multiple messaging services. The only exception is multimedia messages, where Google Assistant simply says the message contains multimedia, but does not open the attached file.
In addition to reading the messages themselves, you can also request information about the sender and from which application it was sent. And as soon as Google Assistant reads the message out loud, it is removed from your notifications.
To reply to any of your messages, you can use the Google Assistant to reply by voice or by typing a reply. After sending your reply, you can continue listening to unread messages. (via Android Police )
