How OnePlus 7 Pro Owners Can Get Google’s August Android Security Update Ahead of Time
In most cases, Google Pixel devices are the first to receive the latest major and minor operating system updates. However, OnePlus 7 Pro owners have a chance to surpass Google this month as OnePlus yesterday began rolling out the August 2019 Android security update.
At the time of posting (Aug 1), our own Pixels had yet to receive the patch – although to be honest, at least we’re getting monthly security updates instead of the OnePlus 7 Pro’s two-month schedule.
Google’s August 2019 Security Update is part of the now available OxygenOS 9.5.11 update for the OnePlus 7 Pro (OxygenOS is the proprietary Android operating system that One Plus devices use). According to the patch notes, the OxygenOS 9.5.11 update also includes:
- Optimized adaptive brightness
- Optimized screen sensitivity for gaming
- Reduced the number of accidental taps on the notification panel during a phone call
- GMS update 2019.06
- Other bug fixes and tweaks
How to update Oneplus 7 Pro and install the new security patch
- On the OnePlus 7 Pro, go to Settings> System> System Update.
- Click “Check for Updates”
- If an update is available, click Download and Install Now.
- Wait for the update process to complete
You may not have access to the security update right away, and the exact time when it is available depends on how OnePlus is rolling out OxygenOS updates over the air. If you don’t want to wait, Oneplus usually releases update files on its support page shortly after a new one becomes available, although at the time of this writing, the 9.5.11 update has not yet been published.
When it becomes available, you can manually apply the update :
- Download the update file to your computer.
- Connect Oneplus 7 Pro to your computer via a USB charger.
- On your Oneplus device, go to Settings> System> System Updates.
- Tap the settings icon in the upper right corner, then tap “local update”
- Browse to the update zip file, select it and click Install.
- Follow the remaining instructions and the update will begin. Your device will reboot after the update is complete.
