How to Control Spotify With Siri
Siri can be used to control more than just Apple devices, apps, and services. One such third-party service is the Spotify iOS app, which recently started testing Siri support for some users.
The trick here is that you need to update your iOS device to iOS 13.1 and you have to use the latest beta of the Spotify app for Siri to control it. Most people have probably already installed the iOS 13.1 update, but just in case, you can download it by going to Settings> General> Software Update on your iPhone.
In terms of getting the latest beta of the Spotify app, you can take part in the Testflight program via the App Store, although to be honest, this is a limited beta and only a certain number of testers are allowed at a time.
For those in the Spotify beta, using the basic Hey Siri command brings up a digital assistant that you can then ask to find a song, album, or artist on Spotify – but make sure you’re asking Siri clearly. search for “Spotify,” otherwise you will get results from other sources like Apple Music or Safari.
While it’s good to see Spotify finally moving to Siri support, there are some limitations. Currently, you can only use Siri with Spotify on iPhones running iOS 13.1 – either directly through your phone or with a pair of AirPods – but not on the Spotify apps for HomePod or Apple Watch. Also, you can only use Siri to search for music on Spotify, not podcasts.
These are understandable drawbacks, given that the feature is still in testing, but worth looking out for nonetheless. As we always say, beta software can be buggy and unstable, but you can always use the link above to opt out of the Spotify beta if you run into problems.
Whether you skip the beta or just don’t sign in, Siri support should be available on the full version of Spotify soon, hopefully with a wider array of supported devices, commands, and content.
