How to Block Unwanted Emails, Phone Calls and Messages in IOS 13

Is your iPhone littered with spam? Then you should probably upgrade to iOS 13 if you haven’t already. iOS 13 includes several new tools for blocking spam and robots , and brings the iMessage blocking options from iOS 12. These make it easy to filter out unwanted messages at the source – whether from specific contacts or in bulk. What’s more, any numbers or email addresses you block from your iPhone will be blocked on your other Apple devices as well. Here’s how:

Block spam

  1. First, you can block specific contacts from the iOS Mail app by opening a message and tapping the sender’s email address. Click the Block this Contact button.
  2. Then go to Settings> Mail and turn on Ignore Blocked Senders.
  3. You can also go to Settings> Mail> Blocked to add or manage your blocked contacts.

Blocking unknown subscribers

Go to Settings> Phone and turn on Mute Unknown Callers. This disables calls and notifications for calls from unknown numbers, which should cut down on spam and robotic calls, but keep in mind that this can also block important calls from numbers you haven’t saved. It would be wise to turn this off if you are expecting an important phone call from a number you don’t know or have not saved.

Block iMessage contacts

While you can technically block contacts in iMessage since iOS 12, the blocking method is very similar to blocking email addresses and phone numbers. In Settings> Messages, turn on Filter Unknown Senders. Just keep in mind that this will prevent you from seeing messages from all unknown senders like you would when blocking unknown numbers, so be careful when you have this setting enabled and be sure to check your Filtered Messages folder if you expect to hear from someone. …
