Change Your GateHub and EpicBot Passwords Now
It’s kind of a random amalgamation – I understand – but two new websites have joined the glorified list of hacked sites ” I got hacked .” One is a cryptocurrency wallet and the other is the RuneScape bot. It sounds like a small thing, but these two violations have potentially affected up to 2.2 million users, and you might be wise to do some review (and change) if you think you can fall into any group.
The easiest way to do this is to simply launch the I Was Fooled website and enter your primary email address. If you are affected by these or any other violations, you will find out. Of course, you probably will also be able to remember whether you used kogda or kriptovalyutny purse GateHub or application automation EpicBot for RuneScape. They’re both services for some pretty specific functionality, and I think you’ll be able to remember if you subscribed to (or downloaded) them.
These two violations differ slightly in scope. As described in the “Have I been tricked” section:
GateHub
“In October 2019, 1.4 million accounts from the GateHub cryptocurrency wallet service were posted on a popular hacker forum. GateHub previously admitted a data breach in June, albeit with fewer accounts affected. The break-in data included email addresses, mnemonic phrases, wallet hashes, and passwords stored as bcrypt hashes. “
EpicBot
“In September 2019, bot provider RuneScape EpicBot suffered a data breach that affected 817,000 subscribers. The hack was subsequently posted on a popular hacking forum and included usernames, email, IP addresses, and passwords stored as MD5 or bcrypt hashes. EpicBot did not respond when they learned about the incident. “
However, their common characteristic is that your hashed passwords have been compromised. While it usually takes a hacker a long time to decrypt – years, says Ars Technica – this is assuming each service correctly configured the hashing function it used (Bcrypt). If they messed up something, it would be much easier to extract useful information (your password) from the hashed data.
Our advice? If you know you’ve used the same password for GateHub or EpicBot on other sites, which you shouldn’t, change it now. Having a great password manager that can tell you where you’ve done it (and how many times) makes the process even easier, and we recommend switching to one of these apps to manage your passwords in the future.
GateHub users in particular will also want to reset the “mnemonic phrases” they use to access their accounts and wallets as they are definitely missing.
