If You Don’t Have Time to Exercise, Try the “snacking” Exercise Instead.

If you don’t have time to play sports, welcome to the club. (I do exercise a lot, but after a few days I get overwhelmed by how much time and effort it takes to complete an entire workout done in sportswear at a specific time and place.) A way around this: exercise snack.

This is a small part of the exercise: walking around the block, doing push-ups in the office when no one is looking, setting a pull-up bar in the doorway, and doing one or two reps every time you walk through it.

What good is a snack? Well, it depends on what the rest of your workout looks like, if you have one at all. If you are currently not doing anything, snacking is a good way to develop a habit of full exercise. If you take a break from exercising, snacking can make you hungry and miss the gym. And even if you are currently exercising on a regular schedule, snacks are still nutritious and delicious, figuratively speaking.

The beauty of the snack is the lack of commitment. You don’t need to change your clothes because you probably aren’t going to sweat. You don’t need to set yourself up for a few grueling dumbbell sets if you only plan on doing ten reps and then lower the dumbbells and go back to your computer.

I returned to training a few years ago after a kid kicked out of a sports habit. Now look at me . I also have a couple of dumbbells on the porch and a crossbar in the doorway, which I snack on from time to time. I even took a walk around the block before writing this story. So try a snack, because exercise doesn’t have to be easy.
