Sign up to Beta Test New GitHub Apps for IOS and Android
Github is a great resource for programmers of all levels and serves as a great repository of readily available software and development tools. The website is difficult to use on anything other than a desktop, but that may soon change thanks to a new dedicated app that GitHub asks you to help with beta testing.
To get started, you can visit the official GitHub beta registration page, or go straight to your platform of choice – iOS or Android – if you have an active GitHub account . The iOS beta is already available, and the Android beta is more of a waiting list than an app you can get right now.
Obviously, the smaller screen on your smartphone means that the mobile app’s capabilities will be limited compared to the desktop version of GitHub. According to Tech Crunch , the app allows you to participate in discussions, review code (although this is limited to just a few lines), and merge changes.
While iOS and Android apps should be the same in functionality, there are definitely differences between using the app on a phone and a tablet. Thanks to the iPad’s larger screen, users will be able to view more content and check even more code in the app. It will also support some keyboard shortcuts on the GitHub website as long as an external keyboard is connected to it. Otherwise, the limitations of the smartphone app also exist on the iPad (and other tablets).
