If You Are Still Using Windows 7, You Need This Security Update
Hackers use BlueKeep to hack Windows computers and install a cryptocurrency miner. The vulnerability affects only systems running Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008.
If you are using one of these three versions of Windows, you should download and install a patch from Microsoft to fix the problem . The patches have been available since May, so chances are good that you’ve already updated.
However, ZDNet reports that security researchers had just noticed the first mass hacking campaign using an exploit, so some Windows users did not receive the cheat sheet.
When Microsoft issued an exploit warning in May, it thought it could potentially be used as a self-propagating worm. Instead, hackers use it to mine cryptocurrency, with some attacks dating back to October 23rd.
While mining cryptocurrency is nowhere near as disastrous as a hack that could have been done with an exploit, you should still make sure you have a patch installed on your computer so that you are not vulnerable in the future.
