Many different Echo smart speaker models have been released over the years, but the newest Echo Studio is one of the first that truly feels like a smart speaker, offering superior sound and features that rival the best smart speakers on the market, rather than simply an improved Amazon accessory. Replacing the slightly larger 4th-generation Amazon Echo and featuring a different form factor than the first-generation Echo Studio, the second-generation Echo Studio is compact and doesn’t look out of place among other modern Alexa-enabled smart speakers, but the difference is immediately noticeable. The sound is powerful enough to fill an entire room despite its small size, with detailed mids and highs. Like any small speaker, the bass is rather limited, but it’s quite good for its size. As the design suggests, the sound is non-directional, so it spreads in all directions, bringing spatial audio to life (it can play Dolby Atmos and Sony 360 Reality Audio content).
The speaker comes with Alexa+, the new AI-powered smart assistant that’s free for Amazon Prime members . It supports Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and can be daisy-chained to replace a soundbar in your home theater if you purchase multiple speakers.
