Ahead of Amazon’s annual spring sale, we’re starting to see price drops on its devices. This includes the latest Echo Spot , which combines smart home functionality with a speaker and alarm clock. It’s currently 38% off, selling for $49.99 (down from $79.99).
The Echo Spot is a fairly compact smart alarm clock. In fact, the screen is slightly smaller than you might expect. Although it appears to take up half the device, the screen itself is only a 2.83-inch square portion of the entire semicircular panel. Despite its size, the display displays a variety of information, including the time, weather, and calendar events. It will show you the title of any song currently playing, and you can set it to switch to your favorite music after your alarm goes off .
Like other Amazon Echo devices, this one is compatible with Alexa for hands-free use. If the rest of your home is part of the Alexa ecosystem, you can use the Echo to make calls or set up custom scenes, such as turning off all the smart lights in the house before bed. As PCMag notes in its review , the sound quality is surprisingly loud and dynamic for a smart alarm clock, and while you might need a larger speaker, this one gets the job done. PCMag also notes that when streaming over Wi-Fi, the sound quality is better than when connecting your phone via Bluetooth. It’s important to note that the Echo Spot doesn’t have a camera and can’t play video.
