Garmin Has Launched a Long-Awaited Integration Into Its Fitness Watches.

Garmin has finally launched official WhatsApp integration for its watches—and this time, it actually works. Unlike the previously limited functionality, you can now create and reply to WhatsApp messages and conversations right from your wrist. No more fumbling for your phone to confirm a dinner date.

Is your Garmin watch on the list?

First, check if your watch is supported. Here’s the full list at launch:

By general consensus, all models released in 2025 or 2026 are included in the list. The only exception is the Fenix 8, released in 2024.

How to install WhatsApp on Garmin

Open the Connect IQ app on your phone, and WhatsApp should be at the top of the list. Or, go directly to the app store here .

There are several limitations to note:

What do you think at the moment?

  • There’s no LTE support. Even on the Fenix 8 Pro series (which has a built-in cellular module), it requires the phone to be connected to a network and nearby.

  • This is a full-fledged app, not a widget. It’s installed as a sports app, not a quick access tool, so it’s not easy to open.

  • Images are missing. Photos, stickers, GIFs, and photos taken with the app’s camera are shown as “unsupported.”

If your WhatsApp messages are heavy on photos, this probably won’t impress you. But if you mostly need quick text replies—the classic “on the way,” “yes,” “give me five minutes”—it’s really handy when your phone isn’t nearby.

Usefulness also depends largely on how important WhatsApp is to your life compared to native messaging apps. iOS users in the US might be indifferent to this; for most of the rest of the world, it will be much more important.

LTE support is currently on the wish list. If Garmin is going to sell watches with built-in cellular connectivity, messaging over this connection would be a top priority.
