Google is releasing a budget version of the Pixel 10 A-series on March 5, a full month ahead of the 9a’s 2025 release. There aren’t any significant differences between the 10a and 9a, but there are a few software updates that might justify the purchase for some users. Add a $100 Amazon gift card, and it’s hard to resist. Google has already opened pre-orders for the Google 10a , priced at $499 plus the gift card. Alternatively, instead of the $100 gift card, you can get the Pixel Buds 2a earbuds for the same price of $499 .
Michelle Erhardt, deputy technology editor at Lifehacker, got her hands on the Pixel 10a during Google’s recent demo event. As she noted, the Pixel 10a’s specs don’t resemble the Pixel 10, but rather the Pixel 9. It features a Tensor G4 processor, 8GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of storage, along with the same camera system: a 48-megapixel main lens, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 13-megapixel front camera. Battery life also lasts over 30 hours, and the MagSafe-like Pixelsnap feature is missing. The biggest improvements are the brighter 3,000-nit display, thinner bezels, and improved Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection. But the real value lies in the software and AI.
The Pixel 10 debuted two AI-powered camera features. One is Auto Best Take, which takes 150 photos with a single click, selects the best one, and automatically deletes the rest (or combines elements from multiple shots to create a new “best” image). The other is Camera Coach, which uses AI to help you take the best photo. Google also added Satellite SOS to the A-series phones for the first time. It allows you to connect to a satellite and send a request to emergency services if you don’t have cellular service.
If you’re considering upgrading from a Pixel 9a or later, there’s little to justify it. However, if you have a model older than the Pixel 9 or are upgrading to a Pixel for the first time, this is a great opportunity and phone to consider.
