I Finally Got My Hands on the New Oura Charging Case!
Last week, Oura announced the start of shipping its long-awaited charging case. I received one for testing and can confirm that it works well and is arguably better designed than its competitors. However, is it worth the $99 price tag?
The charging case works with the Oura Ring 4 , but not with older models like the third generation . I’ve already reviewed the Oura Ring 4, and it’s arguably the best smart ring on the market right now. However, it comes at a hefty price tag—not only is the Oura more expensive than many competitors (ranging from $349 to $499), but it also requires a $5.99 per month subscription to access almost all features .
The standard charger that comes with any Oura ring is a simple, flat square with a ridge that the ring slides onto. (The square base then connects to a USB-C cable.) It works fine, but it’s awkward to take with you on trips, and it’s prone to bumps. You might never drop things on your nightstand or snag the charging cable, but it’s definitely happened to me.
Like other Oura users, I’ve long wanted a charging case. The RingConn and Luna Ring come with cases, so it would be great if Oura released one too. I usually keep the ring in my gym bag during weight training (since it’s awkward and useless during those workouts). I plan to keep the charging case in my gym bag and use it during workouts.
Oura Charging Case Specifications
Oura claims the case lasts for five full charges of the ring, and a full charge of the ring takes up to 80 minutes (less if the ring is partially charged). The case itself charges in 90 minutes.
I haven’t had a chance to test it long-term yet, as I only received it recently, but the ring’s battery life is five days or more, depending on the ring’s size and the settings enabled. That means you can go about a month without needing to charge it with a cable.

The case is sized to fit your ring, so you’ll want to make sure you’re buying the correct size charging case—for example, a size 8 case for a size 8 ring.
The charging case features a colored LED on the front. When the ring is in the case and charging, the white LED will flash, just like the bedside charger. When the case is empty and open, it will indicate the case’s charge level. Green indicates a full charge. The case pairs with the Oura app, so you can check the charge levels of both the ring and the case in the app.
How does it compare to other brands?
I have the Luna Ring and the second-generation RingConn earbuds, both of which come with a charging case. The Luna case provides about 30 days of battery life on a single charge, just like the Oura, while the RingConn claims 150 days of battery life on a single charge.
Another noticeable difference is size. The RingConn case is the largest of the three, which likely explains its longer battery life. The Oura case is slightly wider than the Luna but thinner. You can see the size differences in my photos here.
The RingConn case comes with the ring and costs $299 for the set. Luna sells the ring and charging case for $329. (As far as I remember, the Luna charging case was an optional extra and sold for an extra $49, as I wrote here , but right now I only see the bundled offer on their website.) The Oura charging case is sold separately for $99, so for the ring and case, you’ll spend between $448 and $598.
