Gmail Will Get AI-Powered Search and Spell Checking Features.

Google is adding a number of AI-powered features to Gmail that could eliminate the need to search for important information hidden in messages and conversation threads. Many users will soon see a more personalized inbox with AI-powered suggestions, summaries, and spell-check support. Additionally, some AI features previously available only to paid subscribers will be rolled out to all Gmail users, including “Help me write,” AI-powered thread reviews, and suggested replies.

Gmail users will soon have access to an interactive, AI-powered inbox view consisting of two sections. The “Suggested Tasks” section will display tasks that require immediate action, such as invoices and meetings that need to be confirmed. The task will be highlighted in bold, followed by a brief description and a link to the relevant email or conversation. Below that, the “Topics to Review” section will display less urgent (but still important) tasks, such as order status and event updates.
The AI Inbox feature is an optional toggle in the Gmail sidebar. However, you won’t see it right away—it will be available to members of the Google Trusted Tester program before rolling out to a wider audience “in the coming months.”
Get AI insights through Gmail search.
Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers will also be able to receive AI insights based on natural language questions entered into the Gmail search bar (similar to Google search). Instead of the standard keyword search and sifting through multiple message threads, you can ask a question like, “Who was the plumber who gave me an estimate for my bathroom remodel last year?” and receive a detailed summary of the information extracted from the emails in your inbox. The response will also include links to specific message threads.
Artificial intelligence will check your emails for errors.
Finally, Gmail will feature a built-in AI-powered spelling and grammar checker that will check your text, tone, and style, as well as analyze your emails for clarity and structure. Similar to third-party tools like Grammarly, you’ll see one-click suggestions to correct typos, simplify sentence structure, choose better words, and make your writing more concise.
Like the AI Review feature, the Spell Check feature will only be available to paid subscribers. Please note that these AI features are optional and can be disabled, and Google states that it does not use personal information or content to train its AI models.
