This Free Script Disables All AI Features in Windows 11.

Some people love AI. If you’re not one of them (or if you have a favorite AI tool that isn’t built into the system), using Windows 11 can feel increasingly unfriendly. It seems like everything is designed to push you toward Copilot—even notepad.exe now has a prominent AI button in the user interface.
If you want to restore your operating system to its original state, consider RemoveWindowsAI . This free script modifies various registry keys to disable AI features, including Copilot, Recall , and Copilot integration with apps like Edge, Paint, and Notepad. Using various workarounds, it then configures Windows Update to prevent these updates from installing ( the documentation describes the process in detail, if you’re interested).
How to run RemoveWindowsAI on your computer
First, you need to open Microsoft PowerShell on your computer. Make sure you’re using Windows PowerShell 5.1, not the updated version of PowerShell 7 (this only applies if you specifically installed PowerShell 7, so don’t worry about this step if you haven’t already).
To run the script, you’ll need to copy the command from the RemoveWindowsAI page on GitHub and paste it into a PowerShell window (I’m not providing the command directly in case it changes in the future). A user interface will then appear, allowing you to select which AI features you want to disable. Make your selection and watch the changes in the PowerShell window.
I tried deleting everything. Then I opened Notepad—the Copilot icon was nowhere to be seen. The Copilot app had also disappeared, as had all references to AI in the Settings app. It would be great if Microsoft offered a way to do this without resorting to such unofficial workarounds, but that’s not the world we live in.
