CES 2026: Asus’s New Gaming Laptop Looks Like a Giant Nintendo DS.

CES is the time of year when unusual computers appear, and Asus is bringing back an old fan favorite to add to its collection of devices with unusual form factors. Gamers who miss the days of dual-screen monitors can rejoice: the ROG Zephyrus Duo is returning in 2026, and it’s even bigger.

The new ROG Zephyrus Duo, somewhat reminiscent of a giant Nintendo DS, features two full-size 3K OLED displays stacked on top of each other, with a standard laptop hinge between them. While it shares many similarities with the existing Zenbook Duo , the Zephyrus Duo is more geared toward productivity users. The Zephyrus Duo is fully equipped for gamers: both displays have a 120Hz refresh rate, the latest Intel Core Ultra processors, an RTX 5090 graphics card (up to 64GB), up to 2TB of RAM, and built-in storage. It also supports 250W fast charging and can run games on up to 125W of power.

This is more than enough for even the most demanding games, although the price is still unknown. What we do know is how significantly this laptop differs from the previous Zephyrus Duo model , released in 2023. That laptop’s lower display was a simple, small, angled panel above the keyboard, rather than a full-sized display like the upper one. It was great for quickly displaying stats during gameplay, but nothing more.

Instead, the new Zephyrus Duo can display the same game on both screens, mirror them, or show help materials on one screen while you play on the other. It also offers a variety of new ways to use it: it comes with a detachable wireless keyboard, so you can use it as a regular laptop by covering one screen with the keyboard, or get creative.

One example photo from Asus shows a laptop with two displays stacked one above the other, both displays in portrait mode, the entire laptop lying flat on a table (perhaps for one-on-one gaming), and a “tent” mode. The “tent” mode is particularly interesting—an Asus representative told reporters that gamers can play the same game head-to-head while sitting opposite each other in “tent” mode, with each display acting as a separate screen. He acknowledged that this could impact performance, and compatibility may vary depending on the game, but I imagine it could be particularly useful for, say, fighting games.

What do you think at the moment?

Again, this format has already been used for laptops not intended for gaming, but it seems to have great potential for gamers as well. It’s no coincidence that one of Nintendo’s most popular portable consoles has opted for a dual-screen configuration. And, by the way, you might even be able to play some DS games created on this console .

The new ROG Zephyrus Duo is expected to go on sale in the second quarter of this year.
