At full price, it competed with larger, louder options offering more power for the same price. Given the discount, it’s more suited as a mid-sized outdoor speaker that prioritizes bass, durability, and versatility. PCMag gave it an “Excellent” rating , primarily because it delivers deeper low-end than most speakers in its class without being bulky. This isn’t a pocket speaker or a party cannon. It’s designed to strike a balance between portability and audio power, where both are important.

Physically, the Field 5 feels like a device built for heavy use. Its rectangular enclosure is covered in a durable fabric mesh, with passive radiators at each end and discreet LED lighting surrounding them. The lighting can be customized or turned off completely. The speaker is IP67 rated, so dust is a non-issue, and brief splashes of water shouldn’t cause panic. Simple, tactile controls are located on top, including a large ULT button that alters the bass response. ULT 1 delivers a deeper rumble, while ULT 2 delivers a tighter, more powerful sound. Bass is clearly the strong point here, sounding more powerful than you’d expect from a speaker of this size. The tradeoff is the high frequencies, which can sound a bit thin without some EQ adjustments.

The Field 5’s versatility is evident in its connectivity options. Bluetooth 5.3 supports multipoint connection, and Sony Party Connect lets you connect multiple compatible speakers, though they must all be Sony, as this speaker doesn’t support Auracast. There’s also a 3.5mm AUX input, which is becoming a rarity on portable speakers and is useful for wired sources. Codec support includes SBC, AAC, and LDAC, a plus for Android users who value sound quality. Battery life is claimed to be up to 25 hours, and fast charging provides about two hours of playback after 10 minutes of charging. The USB-C port can also charge your phone in a pinch.

What do you think at the moment?

This speaker is still expensive compared to simpler Bluetooth options, and it prioritizes bass over balanced clarity. However, if you’re looking for a reliable speaker with powerful bass and flexible inputs, this offer makes it a much easier buy.
