ChatGPT Now Works With Apple Music for Some Reason.

When ChatGPT first launched , it was designed exclusively for working with text. You could ask it to write a poem, check your code for errors, or create a grocery list for a recipe. Three years later, the app has completely changed—for better or for worse. Not only has ChatGPT’s large-scale language model (LLM) improved significantly (from GPT-3.5 to GPT-5.2), but the bot itself has become multimodal. It can understand not only text but also images, videos, and the internet as a whole. The ChatGPT of 2025 is far from the same product as the one of 2022.
One of ChatGPT’s many improvements over the past three years has been app integration: you can now connect to the OpenAI chatbot and ask it to perform actions on your behalf. You can connect to Expedia to ask ChatGPT to help you book a hotel, to Zillow to ask the bot to help you find an apartment, or to Canva to ask for help creating a slide. Whether these integrations are more useful than simply using the corresponding app is perhaps up to each user, but they still exist.
Fiji Simo, OpenAI’s General Manager of Applications, announced the integration in a Substack post on Tuesday . Among other updates, such as a new image generation model and new writing tools, Simo unveiled new chatbot integrations with apps, including OpenTable, Salesforce, Clay, Lovable, and, of course, Apple Music. Details were limited at the time, but the integration is now officially live.
What can you do with Apple Music in ChatGPT?
First, connecting Apple Music to ChatGPT doesn’t actually require a subscription. This is interesting, as Apple Music itself requires a paid subscription for access. But with ChatGPT, you can access some elements of the service without paying—the key word being “elements.”
Once connected, you’ll be able to search for songs, artists, albums, and playlists in Apple Music directly in ChatGPT. In addition to searching for music, you can also create playlists and listen to snippets of songs found. ChatGPT doesn’t specify the length of these snippets, but based on iTunes, they can be anywhere from 30 to 90 seconds. If you thought this integration was only for listening to music from Apple Music in ChatGPT, you’re mistaken: you’ll still need Apple Music to listen.
Of course, if you have an Apple Music account, the integration will be a little more useful. Then, you’ll be able to add songs, albums, and playlists you’ve discovered or created using ChatGPT to your Apple Music library.
What are the privacy implications of connecting Apple Music to ChatGPT?
Like it or not, ChatGPT isn’t necessarily designed with user privacy in mind. After all, part of the company’s business model is to train its instructors based on your interactions with ChatGPT —unless you specifically opt out . So the idea of connecting your Apple Music subscription to ChatGPT raises some privacy concerns for me. Apple Music doesn’t store the most sensitive user information in your digital portfolio, but it does contain quite a bit of additional data that ChatGPT could collect about you.
At the top of the Apple Music connection tool, OpenAI states, “You’re in control.” The company insists that ChatGPT “always respects” your preferences regarding training data and adheres to the permissions you’ve already set. However, the company also warns that using the app comes with a risk of attack: if hackers decide to target ChatGPT, your data could be intercepted. You’ll also share data such as your IP address and approximate location with Apple Music, as well as ChatGPT data. (This data exchange goes both ways.)
One advantage is that ChatGPT doesn’t seem to have access to your listening history . While the app can create playlists for you, it can’t actually see what you choose to listen to in Apple Music itself.
I personally don’t use ChatGPT, and even if I did, I don’t think I’d connect my Apple Music account to it. I’m happy with the in-app music search feature, and if that’s not enough, the internet helps me find new music. I’m not sure I’d benefit from ChatGPT’s intelligent features, especially given the risk of storing all my Apple Music data elsewhere.
If, unlike me, you’d like to try this integration, you can connect Apple Music to ChatGPT via the app or web app. Go to the sidebar, select “Apps,” then find and select “Apple Music.”
