15 TV Shows Like Emily in Paris You Should Watch Next

As we await news of a ( likely ) sixth season renewal, it’s undeniable thatEmily in Paris has been an unqualified success for Netflix, a reliable hit rivaling the success of more popular genre series like Stranger Things . Lily Collins plays the phony Emily Cooper, who moves to Paris and, by coincidence, lands a temporary job at a posh French marketing firm. She doesn’t speak the language or understand the culture, but gradually manages to endear herself to the locals while balancing work and personal life in a new country. Created by Darren Star, the creator of Sex and the City , her budding fashion sense and penchant for Carrie Bradshaw-esque storytelling make perfect sense.
While you wait for Emily’s next adventure, here are 15 other shows that offer a similarly stylish coming-of-age vibe.
The Brave Type (2017–2021)
Inspired by the career of Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Joanna Coles, this series follows three young best friends—Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens), Kat Edison (Aisha Dee), and Sutton Brady (Meghann Fahy)—as they work at the fictional women’s magazine Scarlet in New York City. Watch “The Bold Type” on Hulu , HBO Max , and Tubi.
Survival of the densest forests (2023 – )
There are no international trips (at least until the second season), but there is a stylish stylist who has been tied to the wrong guy for too long. At the beginning of the series, Mavis (Beaumont, Michelle Buteau, who also co-created the series) is ready for a new beginning, putting herself and her career first, which, however, doesn’t preclude numerous romantic intrigues. As she repeatedly says, she plans to conquer the fashion world with “body positivity, a cute V-neck, and lip gloss.”Watch Survival of the Fattest on Netflix .
The Carrie Diaries (2013–2014)
Before The Emily Diaries in Paris, creator Darren Star produced this two-season prequel to Sex and the City , and it’s a great choice for fans of both shows. Even at 16 and living in Connecticut, Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb) is well on her way to becoming the iconic New York fashionista we know she will become. The high school senior interns at a New York City law firm and then, on top of that rather cushy job, lands a second job at Interview magazine. Young Ms. Bradshaw must juggle school, family, an unstable relationship, a budding career, and a new, very outgoing best friend named Samantha (Lindsey Gort). Watch The Carrie Diaries on The CW or buy episodes on Prime Video and Apple TV.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017–2023)
The connection between the show and its heroine is largely based on style: the immaculate 1950s atmosphere of Mrs. Maisel perfectly matches the exaggerated modern Paris of Emily , but there’s also the aspect of a young woman forging an independent life, no matter the consequences. Mrs. Maisel was one of Prime Video’s first truly buzzworthy original series, a comedy-drama from Amy Sherman-Palladino ( Gilmore Girls ) about Midge Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan), a late-1950s New York housewife who discovers a talent for stand-up comedy. Inspired by the real-life careers of comedians like Totie Fields and Joan Rivers, the series is warm and friendly, with great performances and dialogue; it also manages something rare: being a show about comedy that’s actually funny. Watch The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Prime Video .
Star (2025)
Amy Sherman-Palladino and David Palladino return to television and the world of ballet (after Bunheads ) with this series about two world-renowned ballet companies (one in New York, one in Paris) who decide to spice things up by swapping their most talented dancers. With each company on the brink of financial ruin, Jack MacMillan (Luke Kirby), director of the Metropolitan Ballet, and Geneviève Lavigne (Charlotte Gainsbourg), director of the National Ballet, hatch a plan and enlist an eccentric billionaire (Simon Callow) to finance it. Much of the humor stems from the incongruity of the swapped dancers’ personalities, and despite the pretentious title, there’s a palpable love of ballet that keeps the series light and airy. The focus is slightly more on the choreographers than the young dancers, but the series still showcases impeccable Parisian style. Watch Star on Prime Video.
I Love Los Angeles (2025 – )
Rachel Sennott ( Shiva Baby , Bottoms ) created, produces, writes, and stars as Maya, a 27-year-old living in Los Angeles desperate for a promotion at her job as an assistant talent manager. Joining her in the city is Tallulah (Odessa A’zion), a former New York influencer falling on hard times, and a circle of friends that ranges from hilarious to tiresome, including West Hollywood stylist Charlie (Jordan Firstman) and Maya’s teacher boyfriend, Dylan (Josh Hutcherson). It’s a great series, and while attitudes toward the comedy about coming of age in Los Angeles in twentysomethings may vary, it’s cleverly written and impressively acted. Watch I Love L.A. on HBO Max .
Fleabag (2016–2019)
There’s no original premise here. This critically acclaimed series stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge as the title character (always referred to simply as Fleabag) in a comedy-drama about a free-spirited yet deeply angry young woman living in London, who shares her romantic ups and downs in confessional digressions with us, the audience. So… Emily in Paris , but more twisted? Waller-Bridge won Emmy Awards for star, creator, and writer of the series (all in the same year), while her co-stars Sian Clifford, Olivia Colman, Fiona Shaw, and Kristin Scott Thomas also won awards. Watch Fleabag on Prime Video.
Sex Lives of College Girls (2021–2025)
Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet) is a hopelessly naive college student on scholarship; Bela (Amrit Kaur) is an aspiring comedy writer trying to catch the attention of the hottest guys; Whitney (Alia Chanel Scott) is an ambitious athlete and the daughter of a senator; and Layton (Renee Rapp) is a closeted sorority girl. They are randomly assigned to the same room at the fictional Essex College in Vermont for their freshman year. Created by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble, this comedy-drama isn’t as explicit as its title suggests: there’s sex, sure, but like Sex and the City before it, this funny, LGBTQ-friendly show is more about female friendship. Watch Coed Sex Lives on HBO Max .
Spellbound (2023–)
A young woman moves from the United States to France to pursue her dream of becoming a dancer. Oh, and she’s also a sorceress. Enchanted is a sequel to Find Me in Paris , set at the same Paris Opera Ballet School. Featuring a new cast, and while the previous series dealt with time travel, Enchanted is all about real magic: 15-year-old American CeCe Parker Jones travels to Paris to enroll in a prestigious dance school and discovers she’s a witch with a family history of witchcraft. She struggles to balance dance, magic, and her desire to be a normal teenage girl while also dealing with Mystics, the natural enemies of witches like CeCe. It’s a solid and stylish coming-of-age drama. Watch Enchanted on Hulu .
Call My Agent! (2015–2020)
This French series doesn’t feature a Chicago girl traveling abroad, so if you’re looking for a Parisian comedy about working in the marketing industry without an American chaperone, you’re in luck. The series focuses on four talent agents at a prestigious agency who are forced to take the reins after the sudden death of the agency’s founder. They try to navigate their complicated personal lives while also meeting the needs of their real-life celebrity clients (Juliette Binoche, Monica Bellucci, Isabelle Huppert, and Sigourney Weaver are just a few of the guest stars, playing slightly exaggerated versions of themselves). It’s a gripping, engaging showbiz experience that will delight even those with no French skills.Watch “Call My Agent!” on Netflix or buy episodes on Prime Video and Apple TV .
Gossip Girl (2007–2012)
Teen drama at its finest and most caustic, Gossip Girl chronicles the numerous scandals of a group of young Upper East Side socialites and their hangers-on. The tangled teenage lives of Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively), her rival-best friend Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester), scholarship student Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley), and a host of other attractive young men and women are meticulously detailed by the mysterious and omnipresent Gossip Girl (voiced by Kristen Bell). Like Emily , the series boasts an impeccable sense of style, with the main characters never missing a beat. A short-lived 2021 sequel is also available on HBO Max. Watch Gossip Girl on HBO Max and Netflix.
Ugly Betty (2006–2010)
Just as Emily’s touristy kitsch in the show’s first episode gets her pelted with mud, Betty Suarez (America Ferrera) has a… shall we say, “unique” sense of style that sets her apart from the rest of the aspiring employees of the prestigious fashion magazine Mode , where she manages to land a job despite not quite fitting in (her poncho in the first episode, of course, has become iconic). Betty hails from Queens, but her grown-up braces and kind heart make her stand out in the snarky, high-pressure world of New York fashion. Watch Ugly Betty on Hulu.
Sweet Bittersweet (2018–2019)
Sweetbitter , based on Stephanie Danler’s novel of the same name, which draws on her experiences as a waitress in New York City, tells the story of Tess, a 21-year-old Yellowjackets star (at the time the series begins), who arrives in the city and lands a job at a prestigious restaurant. As we (and she) quickly discover, the restaurant business is just as fraught with drama (including drugs, alcohol, and sex) as the world of social media. Watch Sweetbitter on Prime Video .
Younger (2015–2021)
Another Darren Star series, its seven-season run partially overlapped with Emily . It flips a more common plot on its head: instead of a young woman striving to make a name for herself, Younger tells the story of Lisa Miller (Sutton Foster), a recently divorced woman in her forties who finds her age a barrier to reentering the publishing industry she left years ago. After a compliment convinces her she could pass for a younger woman, she lies about being only 26 to land an entry-level job. Various adventures ensue. Think of it as a coming-of-age story.Watch Younger on Netflix .
Real Friends in Paris (2022)
What about the real-life “Emily in Paris” ? This action-packed documentary series chronicles the lives of American expats in Paris… oh, kidding, it’s a Bravo reality show. The atmosphere is not dissimilar, though, somehow this reality series feels more overdone than the staged drama “Emily” (which likely inspired it). Six women are trying to make a name for themselves in the City of Light: one is a fashion designer, another an art historian, a third an English teacher, and so on. They all share an impeccable style that most people only appreciate from their time on television. Watch “Real Girlfriends in Paris” on Peacock .
