Note: Although the Boom 2 floats, Bluetooth doesn’t work underwater. Therefore, playlist playback will be interrupted as soon as the speaker is submerged. However, for outdoor parties where someone might tip the speaker over, buoyancy is a good thing.

The Boom 2 produces 80 watts of sound thanks to two 15-watt tweeters and a 50-watt woofer. However, if you turn off BassUp mode, the output drops to 60 watts, so if you need powerful bass, it’s best to leave it on. And while you can connect a second Boom 2 for stereo sound, you’ll only be using Bluetooth, as there’s no Wi-Fi. The speaker’s LED lighting syncs with the music, which is fun at night, but drains the battery faster. Expect about 24 hours of playback with the lighting and bass boost turned off, but less if you use maximum volume. A full charge via USB-C takes about 5.5 hours. This can be a bit long if you’re in a hurry, but it’s plenty for an overnight charge.

What do you think at the moment?

There’s a companion app that lets you customize the sound profile and control lighting settings. This adds a level of personalization that some other speakers lack. However, as noted in the PCMag review , this speaker isn’t for those who value sleek design or deep, accurate audio reproduction. The JBL Flip 6 is arguably more comfortable to hold, and the Sony SRS-XB23 offers a slightly better balance of mids and highs. The Boom 2 does a good job of delivering powerful sound, plenty of volume, and is durable enough to withstand dirty conditions.
