Google Will Repair Your Pixel’s Broken Display for Free (If It’s Eligible).

Smartphone display problems are nothing new. Most of us have dropped our phones at one time or another and faced the hassle (and expense) of repairing them. But when your smartphone screen starts acting up for no apparent reason, it’s quite frustrating, especially if the manufacturer still charges you for the repair.

If this sounds like your experience with the Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, or Pixel 9 Pro Fold, we have good news: Google is launching an expanded repair program for the Pixel 9 Pro lineup. According to a statement released Monday , Google has identified a “limited number” of Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL devices that may have display issues affecting the user experience. If your Pixel 9 Pro display exhibits similar symptoms, Google will repair it free of charge.

What it takes to make your Pixel 9 Pro eligible

This doesn’t mean that all display issues on your Pixel 9 Pro are covered by this program. Google has identified two specific issues that are covered by this expanded repair program. The first is a vertical line on the display. This line should run from the bottom edge of the screen to the top, so partial lines won’t work properly. The second is display flickering. If you notice your Pixel 9 Pro’s display rapidly brightening and dimmer, as if someone is flicking a switch, you’re eligible for the repair program.

The Pixel 9 Fold is a different story entirely. Like the 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL, Google offers a free repair program for the 9 Pro Fold. However, unlike other devices, it doesn’t specify specific issues . Issues may be display-related, but since the company doesn’t specify which ones, you can bring in your 9 Pro Fold with almost any issue, as long as you didn’t cause the problem yourself. Furthermore, Google won’t repair your foldable smartphone; instead, it will be replaced entirely.

The company also strictly monitors display quality, with the exception of the issues listed above, on all Pixel 9 Pro devices. If your Pixel’s display or screen protector is cracked, it may disqualify you from a free repair. If Google detects liquid damage on your device, the situation is the same. In either case, the company will still fix the aforementioned display issues, but may charge a fee.
